to place it where it is as convenient as possible to see while you are driving. That's why most people put the boost gauge on the pillar, not for *LOOKS* (at least I hope not), but for function - because its right there. You can see it at a glance. However if you are going to mount it somewhere out of the way, like in the glovebox, then you'd be better off getting an electronic boost gauge with a peak hold setting. That way you can always refer back to your peak boost when its safe to look down and take your eyes off the road.
